The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is activated by our subconscious assessment of safety, known as neuroception. This triggers either thriving and expanding or surviving and conserving energy states. Ideally, our nervous system should function optimally during a neuroception of safety and only briefly during a neuroception of danger. However, the fast pace, uncertainties, and stresses of life often leave us in an unsafe state for long periods, leading to ANS dysregulation. This can be the underlying cause of many chronic physical, psychological, learning, and behavioral conditions. When we have a neuroception of 'safe', we can take the risks of life and show up in a way that ultimately improves the psychological safety of the external environments we are a part of. Improved psychological safety results in work environments where teams feel included, able to speak up, challenge, be creative, and make suggestions for improvement. Research has shown that teams that rate their psychological safety as high are high-performing, productive, considerate of each other, collaborative, have a sense of 'we are in this together,' and have high retention rates. Change comes from a combination of purpose and awareness of our being and becoming. My passion for supporting women began when they approached me for coaching on leadership issues, always referencing in our conversations their struggles with confidence - no matter what level of seniority they held. I could see how this challenge was compounded by the pressures they felt to look the part, especially when working in majority male industries and environments. Through coaching them, I began to recognise just how nuanced the problem was, and how their challenges with confidence impacted not just their career progression, but also their performance, productivity, sense of identity, mental health, wellbeing and retention in their roles, as well as the impact they made within their organisations. Following that calling, I now support women in leadership in reconnecting with and embodying their personal power, overcoming imposter syndrome, building their leadership presence and influence, while also leveraging it: so that they can become the leader they want to be, creating the kind of career they aspire of and leave the legacy that they dream of, particularly in support of the younger women on their teams. Since training as a coach and setting up my practice Ishoo Rajamohan Coaching in 2021, I have supported around 150 women in overcoming their challenges with confidence. From this work I have developed a framework called The Confidence Dynamic™ that helps women recognise and articulate what their issues when they lack confidence, and also how they can overcome it. Having coached women from a variety of backgrounds - from corporate organisations to social enterprises, from civil servants and head teachers of schools to startup founders and women business owners - confidence is a challenge that impacts us across the board. Given that women struggle to speak up openly about their challenges with confidence, I now also deliver trainings in organisations, hoping to raise awareness of this issue amongst managers and employers and to empower women with the ability to recognise, articulate and overcome those challenges. I am a former architect and pastry chef, now an accredited Foundation Coach with the Association for Coaching (UK) and a Mental Health First Aider. In 2023 I was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In addition, I run the Co-Coaching Forum for the Association for Coaching in the Nordics. Although I am now based in Sweden, I coach exclusively online and continue to work with clients in the UK and across the globe. My coaching style has been described as calm and gentle, and coachees deeply appreciate my warm, reassuring presence and the space that I skilfully hold for them to achieve their desired outcomes. My work as a coach affirms what I have always known - that even though a coachee brings a very human challenge to work on during a session, I am invariably shown glimpses of their unique brilliance that they often don't see themselves. In addition, my intuitive approach brings deeper awareness to sessions: coachees not only gain clarity about what might be getting in their way, but also the full extent of their potential. Therefore, when accountability is what they require from me, I will always hold them to their ‘highest’, allowing them to take bold actions, strengthen their sense of personal power and project their authority outwards.
