In more details: As far as I remember, I had no idea where I was heading. With a generalist training from a French business school, I ended up working in a clutch factory, lost in an industrial polygon near the Madrid suburbs, which as a non-Spanish-speaker proved quite the experience. 2 years later, rather than getting promoted to an office job paving the way for a bright and respectable future, I joined the ranks of MSF (doctors without borders). Without notice, I got sent to Haiti while the earth was still shaking from the 2010 earthquake. A life-changing moment, on all levels. I experienced the field, the people, the thrill. 3 missions and a few security situations later, I went back to HQ in Paris. We then moved to Senegal for 5 years, participating in the rise of Alima (an MSF-like NGO). The day we got back to Europe as our 3rd child was close to join the family, I said “no more finance unless msf opens a great job in Barcelona”. 3 month later I started as finance director of MSF in Barcelona. Further away from the field, still close to people, but in need for more.
