360 Assessments with Tom Krapu

LINK:

DESCRIPTION: Tom Krapu, PhD, PCC shared a wealth of wisdom on the topic of 360’s - something that we as coaches use a lot! Many of us are trained in specific 360 products, but it was great to zoom back out to the best practices for using 360’s overall. Takeaways:

  • Make sure there’s a culture of trust and safety first. Otherwise 360’s can easily be weaponised.
  • Ensure your 360’s have a strong communication plan wrapped around them. Often the most elegant leadership development programs aren’t matched with equally sophisticated comms.
  • If you’re running a large program of 360’s within an organisation, space out surveys and interviews to avoid rater fatigue, which can significantly impact the outcomes.
  • Wording of your 360 items really matters! Make sure the tool you use phases questions positively, and that questions focus on the coachees observable behaviours.
  • And importantly, 360’s should ALWAYS be developmental. Never enmeshed in a performance or comp review.
