Welcome to the BOLDLY Coach Spotlight! We’re excited to introduce Coach Joelle, an ICF - PCC accredited coach as well as being accredited in most psychometric tests. She is based in Malta, and brings nearly 13 years of experience coaching leaders across industries, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. She has also worked with clients from 50+ nationalities. Let's find out more about Joelle!

Can you tell us about your coaching journey? What inspired you to become a coach, and how has your practice evolved over the years?

I started my career in IT, where my job was to solve technical problems and ensure users had what they needed to work efficiently. In the early years, I struggled with truly listening—not just hearing what people were saying, but understanding the emotions and values behind their words.

Once I mastered that, I realized something: people don’t just need solutions; they need to be understood. That realization put me on a path of deeper exploration into human behavior, motivation, and change. Over time, my focus shifted from fixing technical issues to helping people unlock their own potential. Coaching became a natural extension of my passion for understanding people, and my practice has evolved into a space where clients gain clarity, challenge their assumptions, and take meaningful action toward their goals.

What are the core values or principles that guide your coaching practice, and how do they influence the way you work with clients?

For me, coaching is about depth, clarity, and action. I guide my clients through a structured process:

  1. Defining the ‘What’ – What’s the real challenge or opportunity? What do they truly want?
  2. Exploring the ‘Why’ – Why does it matter? What’s at stake?
  3. Collaborately Designing the ‘How’ – Ensuring my client feels fully committed and equipped to take action

I believe transformation happens when we move beyond surface-level conversations. That’s why I create a space where clients can explore their blind spots, challenge limiting beliefs, and reconnect with their deeper values.

Are there any specific techniques or frameworks you use in your coaching that set your practice apart? How do these benefit your clients?

Every client is different, so my approach is highly adaptable. I integrate tools from positive psychology, sub-personality work, perspective shifts, and positive intelligence, alongside my background in theatre improvisation—which helps leaders become more agile, confident, and present.

I also draw from well-established coaching models, including:

  • The GROW Model (Goal, Reality, Options, Will) for structured problem-solving
  • Bridges’ Transition Model for navigating change
  • Immunity to Change Framework to uncover hidden resistance

Some sessions are highly action-driven, focused on immediate problem-solving, while others are deeper and more exploratory. The key is meeting the client where they are and guiding them toward where they want to be.

What are the most common challenges or themes you see emerging in coaching engagements today, especially in 2025? How are these influenced by the current professional and cultural landscape?

In 2025, leaders are facing decision fatigue, adaptability overload, and a crisis of meaning. The pace of change is relentless, and many feel like they’re constantly playing catch-up—whether with AI advancements, shifting workplace dynamics, or evolving leadership expectations.

The biggest themes I see emerging are:

  1. The Leadership Identity Shift – Many leaders are questioning their leadership style. They recognize that the old command-and-control style is outdated, but they struggle to find the right balance between decisiveness and authenticity. They want to inspire trust while maintaining authority—without feeling like they have to choose between the two.
  2. Emotional Resilience in High-Stakes Environments – Burnout is still a major issue. Leaders need strategies to stay grounded while making tough decisions.
  3. Navigating Complexity with Confidence – With uncertainty becoming the norm, leaders need to strengthen their ability to make clear, confident decisions in ambiguous situations.

These shifts require a new kind of leadership—one that’s adaptive, emotionally intelligent, and deeply self-aware. That’s where coaching makes all the difference.

How do you incorporate research-backed practices or psychology into your coaching sessions to ensure impactful outcomes for your clients?

I ground my coaching in psychology and neuroscience, ensuring that my clients aren’t just inspired but actually wired for sustainable change.

I incorporate:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Techniques – Helping leaders recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns.
  • Neuroscience of Habit Formation – Making behavioral change stick.
  • Emotional Intelligence & Positive Intelligence – Strengthening self-awareness, resilience, and leadership presence.

The key is not just talking about transformation—but making it actionable, repeatable, and measurable.

What outcomes or transformations do your clients typically experience, and how do you measure success in your coaching engagements?

My clients often experience:

  • Greater Clarity – They stop spinning in uncertainty and gain confidence in their decisions.
  • Stronger Leadership Presence – They learn to lead with authenticity, emotional intelligence, and impact.
  • Improved Resilience – They develop mental agility to handle stress, setbacks, and high-pressure situations.
  • Tangible Career Growth – Many step into bigger roles, take on greater challenges, or successfully navigate major transitions.

To track progress, I sometimes use psychometric assessments at the beginning and end of a coaching engagement. This is particularly valuable for leaders who want clear, data-driven insights into how their mindset, leadership style, or behavioral patterns have evolved. It helps ground their transformation in measurable terms and reinforces the impact of their personal growth journey.

Ultimately, success isn’t just about external milestones—it’s about the internal shifts that enable leaders to navigate complexity with confidence, resilience, and authenticity.
