Ilona
Shanghai, People's Republic of China
Languages: English, Chinese - Mandarin, Cantonese

Ilona partners with executives and emerging leaders who are navigating growth, transition, and increasing responsibility in complex and evolving environments. Her work supports leaders who want to lead with greater clarity, confidence, and intention—especially at moments when expectations rise, roles shift, or familiar approaches no longer feel sufficient. Many clients come to this work when they sense a gap between who they are today and the leader they are being asked to become—when success is visible on the outside, yet deeper alignment, confidence, or direction feels less certain. These moments often call for reflection, not acceleration. Ilona believes that meaningful leadership growth begins with awareness and choice. Rather than offering quick fixes or prescriptive solutions, she works with clients to strengthen their self-awareness and self-efficacy—their capacity to learn, adapt, and take intentional action amid uncertainty and change. This approach supports sustainable development that integrates performance, integrity, and long-term growth. An ICF-certified Professional Certified Coach (PCC), Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder-Centered Coaching certified executive and team coach, and Breakthrough Coaching Advanced Practitioner, Ilona brings rigor, perspective, and presence to her coaching. She has partnered with leaders and managers from startups to Fortune 500 organizations across industries including technology, consulting, finance, consumer products, manufacturing, energy, hospitality, and healthcare. Ilona works through genuine partnership and thoughtful inquiry. She creates a calm, non-judgmental space grounded in trust, presence, and reflection—where clients can pause, think more clearly, and examine how their assumptions, thought patterns, and emotional responses shape their leadership and impact. Through this process, clients gain clarity around what matters most, strengthen their ability to choose intentionally, and move forward with greater confidence and purpose. Her coaching is shaped by a rich professional and personal background that bridges cultures, industries, and ways of thinking. A former entrepreneur and international marketing executive, Ilona founded an import retail business in China and earlier she worked across global organizations including a fashion brand, Grant Thornton, a NASDAQ-listed company, and a quasi-governmental organization. These experiences give her firsthand insight into leading within complex systems, navigating competing priorities, and working across diverse cultural contexts—allowing her to meet leaders where they are. During her years living and working abroad, Ilona also volunteered in international schools, supporting students with additional needs and challenges. This experience deepened her understanding of human development, adaptability, and the importance of creating environments where individuals feel supported, respected, and capable of growth. Educated in the US, Europe, and Asia, Ilona integrates Eastern wisdom with Western leadership practices in her coaching. She brings together reflection, awareness, and presence with clarity, accountability, and impact—offering leaders a grounded, integrative approach to growth that is both humane and effective. Ilona approaches each client holistically, meeting them where they are in their professional and personal development. Her work supports leaders in navigating complexity, strengthening leadership effectiveness, and building grounded confidence in how they think, choose, and show up at work. As clarity and effectiveness grow, clients often experience more integrated, holistic professional growth—enabling them to lead with greater intention, resilience, and influence. At the core of Ilona’s coaching is a belief that growth is not about becoming someone else, but about evolving into a more intentional and capable version of oneself. Through honest, non-judgmental dialogue, active listening, and powerful questioning, she supports clients in turning insight into action. If this way of working resonates, Ilona offers a reflective partnership for leaders who want to grow with intention, integrity, and impact.

Executive coach since 2012 and former Experian finance manager. 1,500+ hours with CEOs, CFOs, and leadership teams on alignment, accountability, and change. I've coached senior executives, general managers, and founders in the US, UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Africa. Most of them come to me with a problem that keeps coming back even after the company has invested in training. Decisions get stuck, people aren't holding each other accountable, communication between teams breaks down, or a leadership team agrees on something in the meeting and then goes off and does something else. I come from the business side rather than HR. At Experian, a global credit and data company, I started in accounts payable and worked my way up to lead a finance team, where I ran budgeting, forecasting, and strategy for a $14M business unit. Later, as general manager of a coaching and consulting firm, I was responsible for its finances, hiring, and operations. So I read a business the way a CFO does, and when a leader sets a goal, I want to know what it's worth to the business and how we'll know it has moved. In my coaching, I look for the root cause, which is rarely a missing skill. More often it's a belief the leader holds about control, conflict, or what good work looks like. I listen for it in how they talk and in what they leave out, and then we test whether that belief still holds up. From there, we build new habits into their actual week, in their one-on-ones, meetings, and decisions, so the change lasts after our work together ends. I've worked with leaders in New York, London, Sydney, Beijing, the UAE, and here in Athens, where I'm based. Many of them manage teams spread across several countries, and I help them work out how to collaborate, give feedback, and keep people accountable when everyone has a different idea of what good communication looks like. I'm American with Vietnamese heritage and have built my life in Greece, so I know firsthand how differently cultures handle hierarchy, feedback, and disagreement. Leaders often bring me in for: - Executive presence, communication, and influence after a promotion - Leading through restructuring, downsizing, or rapid growth - Leading remote and cross-cultural teams across countries - Leadership team alignment and conflict - Burnout and stress for high-performing executives - Sales leadership and business development Results - Coached a business development manager at a software company whose team grew revenue from €200K to €1.6M in nine months. - Coached an installation manager at a manufacturing company who built a new service line from zero to $800K in revenue in twelve months. ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC). Founder of GoNexa. All client work is confidential.

I spent 17 years leading in the Royal Netherlands Army. Group commander of engineer reconnaissance, senior leadership instructor, mission coordinator on deployment. I led people who had to perform when it counted, and I learned where it starts. The leader sets the tone. Stay steady, and the team stays steady. Now I coach leaders and high performers who look fine on the outside and run on empty underneath. People who've lost the thread of where they're going, or who are stepping into a role that asks more of them than the last one did. I start with a different question than most. Not "who are you now, and what can you do with that." That only gets you a slightly better version of today. I ask what you actually want, in your work and at home, and then who you'd have to become to get there. From there we find what's in the way. A belief that holds you back, a skill you're missing, behaviour you don't show yet. Then you do the work. How I work: I work backwards. Most coaching starts with where you are now. I start with where you want to end up, across the whole of your life. Work, home, health, relationships. Four things run through it. Outcome first, we're clear on what you're after before we touch the how. The whole person, work and home aren't separate. Situational, there's no single right way to lead or to change, and a good leader can switch. Action and proof, we measure where you start and where you finish, so you prove to yourself that it works. I'm direct. I'll tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. You take on a coach for a result, and a result takes action. Reflection without action is a diary. I moved my family to Portugal and built the life I'm describing. So I'm not selling something I haven't done myself. Proven, not promised.

I believe that now more than ever, the business world needs leaders who are truly themselves. I support leaders to transform themselves, their teams, their organisations and their lives by being their authentic, best selves. I do this by offering a unique blend of conscious business, mindfulness and heart-based leader development to help people look inside themselves, to learn about their gifts and their fears. I have experience working with hundreds of leaders around the globe and this experience has taught me that it is only when leaders surrender the burden of their busy minds, open their hearts and lean into the messiness of unlearning defeating habits and limiting beliefs that their perfectly imperfect potential is realized.

My name is Dale and I'm a leadership transition specialist. About me I’ve held senior operational and leadership roles in complex, results-driven environments where outcomes depended on personal effort and on how effectively I led others. I understand the challenges of navigating these transitions and the lack of support that exists in this space. I provide that support and want to help you close that leadership transition gap. The transition readiness gap is the space between being capable in your current role and truly ready for the next one. We’re not building capabilities – you have those in spades. We’re building your internal readiness, whether you’re a first-time manager embracing a new role, or a senior leader whose elevating to a focus on strategic outcomes and stakeholder relationships. How do I help you? Through structured conversations, targeted diagnostics and real-world application, we focus on building readiness. The work is practical, deliberate and grounded in real situations that you’re dealing with right now. The goal is to help you transition into that next level of leadership with the most ease, so you can operate with greater confidence, clarity and purpose in a role that now demands more from you. This means looking beyond skills and experience, focusing on mindset, behaviour, relationships and how you lead under pressure, so the shifts you make are visible where it matters. If what I'm sharing resonates with where you are right now or where you want to be, schedule a call and let's discuss how I can support your next step in leadership transition.

I enable leaders to drive change while delivering their business-as-usual responsibilities—without burning out. They perform better and feel better. For over three decades, I operated within the same complex environments my clients navigate, from fast-growing software firms to global giants — Oracle and Salesforce. Most recently, as Senior Vice President of Customer Success and a member of the global executive team at DigitalRoute, I led a high-stakes transition from a siloed regional structure to a unified global unit, better able to serve our customers, people, and shareholders. Throughout my career, I was tasked with launching new solutions, winning landmark deals, and transforming organisations. From years of trial and error building high-functioning environments, I gained a deep appreciation of the need to address both the method and the culture in tandem. This work triggered my own transformation as a leader, shifting my focus from driving the tasks to orchestrating the system where both performance and people excel. Over the past five years, as an executive and leadership coach, I have partnered with more than 50 leaders from a wide range of industries, helping them to achieve tangible business outcomes and personal growth. That can mean balancing relationships with accountability, building partnerships with key stakeholders, or securing executive sponsorship. Here's how one recent client described our engagement — in their own words: — THE EXPERIENCE — "Really rewarding and at times really challenging. It's not an easy pathway. It's very challenging because Chris prompted me to do things completely outside of my comfort zone. But in doing so I am learning things that I would not have learned alone." — CHRIS' STYLE — "Many times I'm having a conversation with myself and Chris is facilitating it. He’s not really interfering. He’s really helping me just reflect and summarise and reorganise things that might not be super clear to me. So it really feels like I'm having a conversation with a better version of me — because he’s not imposing his ideas, he’s just helping me reorganise my own." — THE OUTCOME — "I feel that I'm really growing into the person that I want to be professionally. I can see my own development, and I appreciate that I can do my work better and help improve situations — because I have a self-knowledge that I simply didn't have before."

Are you a high-performing professional navigating a major transition in your career? Perhaps you've taken on a new leadership role, your organisation is changing, or you feel like something is missing and are unsure where to go from here. Other people may think you are successful — but internally you may feel uncertain, stretched, or stuck between who you were and who you're becoming. Many of the professionals I work with find themselves: • Overthinking decisions or second-guessing themselves • Working harder but feeling less effective • Struggling to set boundaries or delegate • Avoiding difficult conversations • Feeling pressure to prove themselves in a new role • Wondering whether they’re truly ready for the next level • Feeling restless or unsure about what comes next Change is part of life but it can feel surprisingly destabilizing, even for capable, high-achieving people. Coaching can be an anchor in the storm. It's a safe place to explore what's working and what's not. Identify skill gaps and think creatively about how to adapt to the transition in front of us. In my coaching practice I aim to blend deep listening with practical tools drawn from neuroscience, positive psychology, and real-world leadership experience. With the intention of helping high-performing professionals (yes, that means you!) navigate change with greater clarity, confidence, and resilience. With 3000+ coaching hours and a 20-year background in science, healthcare, and organisational leadership, I understand both the psychological and practical realities of working in high-pressure environments. Clients I work with often report: • Greater confidence and self-trust • Clearer decision-making during periods of change • Stronger leadership presence • Increased resilience under pressure • Renewed clarity about their career direction If you're at a turning point in your career, I’d love the opportunity to connect with you.

As a Professional Certified Coach (ICF), my service is for clients who believe they have a level of control over their lives. Instead of thinking a certain way, they can change their mindset. Instead of feeling a certain way, there can be a level of emotional regulation. And of course, if you think differently, and feel differently, you can act differently. From building confidence, to eliminating procrastination, to balancing work, life and other stresses, I help my clients navigate it all and make the best decisions for themselves, even if they feel frustrated, afraid of failure, or have negative thoughts that talk them down. There's nothing we can't address to give you the best step forward towards the important things for you(this could be family balance, inner demons, choosing a path, or building your career). With me, you will have a dedicated space, a chance to access your inner creativity, nurture your resourcefulness, develop your growth mindset, and be better equipped with insights, knowledge and strategy to achieve your goals. My clients have literally walked away like they went to a mental gym - feeling energized, more confident, and ready to take action. Thank you for stopping by!

Dr Thomas has been coaching in Asia since 2012. He brings over two decades of leadership as a US military officer and years of teaching at major universities, in addition to his coaching experience in Asia. For 21 years he served as a strategist in the United States Air Force, retiring in 2010 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His career saw him start as a nuclear operations commander near the end of the Cold War before transitioning to a focus on complex operations such as peacekeeping, counterterrorism, and humanitarian assistance. He developed much of the Air Force's new strategy for the post-Cold War VUCA (Volatile - Uncertain - Complex - Ambiguous) environment, and was able to put those strategies into practice during challenging deployments to Macedonia, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. During his career he spent 7 years as a professor at the United States Air Force Academy, where he taught strategic studies and political science as he helped develop the incoming leaders for the Air Force. His final assignment, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon, saw him work primarily on a humanitarian mission with governments in Southeast Asia. Moving to Asia at the start of 2012, he spent 3 years as the Executive Advisor for CEB Corporate Leadership Council. In this role he advised Chief HR Officers from Asia-based multinationals in industries such as banking, telecom, hospitality, airlines, retail, government, international development, and more, in a dozen markets throughout the region. He then went on to found his own leadership coaching and training company, Designing Leaders, where he worked with leaders at all levels, from those taking on their first leadership role to those in the C-suite. Stepping back into the corporate world, he worked for The Economist Group as a geopolitical advisor to C-suite leaders in Singapore and Malysia, and later spent 3 years leading excutive development and onboarding for Amazon Web Services in Asia-Pacific. In addition to Singapore, he has also lived in Bangkok and Manila. Dr Thomas holds a PhD in Public Policy, with a focus on organizational culture and organizational change, as well as an MBA and a bachelor's degree in economics. In addition to teaching at the Academy, he was a professor at Georgetown University in Washington DC, where he taught graduate courses on Data Analysis for HR and on Multinational Business Policy, and served as an advisor in the program's Capstone course. He also taught as a Fulbright Scholar at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, leading a graduate seminar on strategic culture. He is a Certified Professional Coach, accredited by the World Coach Institute. He focuses on the concept of Sustainable Leadership, helping leaders create an environment that sustains their organization's growth and that creates a culture where leadership turnover does not disrupt that growth. He finds that many clients benefit from the GROW model (Goal - Reality - Options - Will) of coaching, though he tailors the approach to the needs of each individual. His coaching practice has included leaders who are: - taking on a leadership role for the first time - preparing for their next leadership opportunity - leading a temporary project - experiencing, or planning for, organizational changes Beyond the workplace, he is an international marathoner, and one of the few people in the world to complete The Marathon Grand Slam: running a marathon on all 7 continents and at the North Pole. Having only started running at age 42, he learned the value of taking on new goals (and new risks) no matter one's age. His book,  CROSS THE LINES, shares lessons from that journey that support professional development, and he incorporates his athletic experience - along with his military, academic, and corporate backgrounds - to create the foundation for his coaching approach. With his diverse background, he works comfortably with a wide range of clients, and with leadership experience of his own in high-risk, complex situations, he is able to stand in the shoes of others and see things clearly from a leader's perspective. Using techniques from his classroom experience and his corporate advisory work, he helps clients discover solutions for themselves that will be best for their own unique situations.
